I. How to Make Wood Pellets?
Wood pellets are pellet fuels made from wood residues or wastes. In general, the raw materials for wood pellets which are usually seen in sawmills, include sawdust, wood chips, wood shavings, etc.
As for application, wood pellets can be adopted as fuel to generate power and heat, or used as animal bedding sources. Now in several countries, wood pellets are used for residential heating, district heating, as well as power generating.
Steps to Make Wood Pellets
Typically, wood wastes need to go through the following steps including crushing, drying, pelleting, cooling and packing.
1. Wood residues should be reduced into small pieces first. --Wood Crusher/Wood Hammer Mill
If the biomass is of quite large size and higher density (e.g., wood), the material should first run through a chipper, and then run through a hammer mill to reduce the particles to the required size. As for smaller and softer biomass (e.g., straw), they can be directly fed into the hammer mill without being chipped. However, if sawdust is adopted as the raw material, this step can be removed.
2. The raw materials should be processed into desired moisture content.
For pellets making, the appropriate moisture should be between 8% and 20%. If the water content of materials is not suitable, the quality and density of final wood pellets would be impacted. So the reduced wood residues should be dried until the moisture content meets the desired level. For industrial pellet mills to produce large quantities of materials, wood drying machine should be adopted; while for individual users like farm or home owners, they just need to leave the wood residues in the sun to dry them until they are suitable for the next step, pelleting.
3. Then a pellet mill shall be used to pelletize the wood residues into pellets. --Wood Pellet Maker
One can choose to use a flat die pellet mill or a ring die pellet mill; besides, users can choose a pellet mill with diesel engine or a pellet mill with electric engine, and various models of different capacities can be chosen as well, so as to meet their different demands.
4. Cooling is an essential step for pellets making.
Since the temperature and moisture content of wood pellets are rather high when the raw materials are made into pellets, a wood cooling machine need to be adopted to cool them. Wood pellets should be stored at room temperature, and the moisture should be roughly 12.5%. If you pack them into bags immediately, mildew may happen to the pellets.
5. Pack and store the wood pellets.
Before the final pellets are sold in market, you should pack them in uniform bags and store them in dry places. Thus the appearance can be improved; the weight can be regulated easily. Of course, you can choose packing machines and pack the wood pellets by different specifications.
Questions You may Concern on Wood Pellets Making
1. What machines you need to make wood pellets?
a. For production of wood pellets in bulk: Chipper, hammer mill, dryer, pelletizer, cooler, packer
b. For farmers or home owners making wood pellets in small capacity:
   One small wood pellet machine (when only sawdust is adopted as the raw material);
A hammer mill and a small wood pellet mill (for other wood residues except sawdust)
2. What raw materials you may choose to make wood pellets?
Wood residues include wood chips, wood shavings, tree tops & branches, logging residues, bark, slabs, edgings, trimmings, veneer clippings & cores, pulp screenings, scraps and sawdust from woodworking shops--furniture factories, wood container & pallet mills, and wholesale lumberyards, etc.
3. What else materials you may choose to make pellet fuel besides wood wastes?
Agricultural residues like rice husk, rice straw, wheat straw, , bagasse, coconut shells, palm wastes, sunflower husk, corn stover, peanut shells, etc.
Energy crops like alfalfa, miscanthus, switchgrass, etc.
4. How to choose a suitable pellet mill for yourself?
For businessman who would like to produce wood pellet in bulk, a ring die pellet mill is much more suitable. Also there are pellet mills of different capacities. You may choose one according to your needs, like how many raw materials you have.
For home or farm owners, you may choose a flat die pellet mill which is designed with smaller capacity; if the electricity is not easily available for you, you may choose one with diesel engine; various models of different capacities are also for your choice.
Besides, if you have a motor already, you may consult us to make sure whether it is suitable. When we say yes, the price shall be lower than that of the whole machine.

II. How to Make Feed Pellets?
Feed pellet (or pelleted feed), which is a kind of compound feed, is preferred by animals like cattle, pig, chicken, rabbits, etc. Besides, more and more farmers tend to feed their animals with pelleted feed.
There are various materials for feed pellets making, such as corn stalk, bean stalk, wheat straw, rice straw, dry flower sapling, alfalfa, oilseed rape straw, etc.
Steps to Make Feed Pellets
Like wood pellets making, feed pellets making also go through the several main steps, i.e. grinding, drying, pelleting, cooling and packing. Feed mill (or feed hammer mill), feed drying machine, feed mixer, feed pellet mill, feed cooling machine and feed packing machine shall be adopted step by step.
Questions You may Concern on Feed Pellets Making
1. What machines you need to make feed pellets?
a. For feed pellet plant, the machines should include feed grinding machine, feed mixing machine, feed pellet machine, feed pellets cooling machine and feed pellets packing machine. The auxiliary feed mill equipment include conveying machine, control cabinet, storage bins, dust collector, fire protection equipment.
b. For farmers making feed pellets for their own use, they should adopt a feed mill (or feed hammer mill), a feed mixer and a feed pellet mill.
2. What raw materials you may choose to make feed pellets?
Hay, barley, bermuda grass, corn (or maize), maize straw, cottonseed hulls, oats, sorghum, soybeans, soybean hulls, wheat, wheat bran, wheat straw, meal, oil cakes, peanut seedling, grass, flour mill by-products, cereals, molasses, seed from oleaginous crops and legumes, forage and dried beet pulp, etc.
3. What materials can be mixed into feed as additives?
Vitamins, minerals, chemical preservatives and other essential micro-ingredients, etc.

  • What's Application of Pellet Mill?

Our pellet machine can make animal feed pellets, bedding pellets and home heating pellets. What¡¯s more, you need only one machine to make all these pellets. Widely used in animal husbandry, brewing, sugar, paper factory and other industries of organic waste granulation. The flat die pellet machine is preferred (biological) ideal equipment for organic fertilizer production enterprise.
