Working principle of this hammer mill
The raw materials, after being delivered into the crushing chamber, are cracked by the blades which rotate at high speed. Under the influence of centrifugal force, the cracked materials are crushed quickly due to continuous squeezing, crushing, beating, scrubbing by the blades. Under the centrifugal force of the rotor and suction from the fan, the crushed particles discharge through sieve holes while the ones failed to get through sieve holes will be ground again and again untill they discharge through sieves.

Hammer mill is to help users to make biomass materials or grains into the desired sizes. Only the raw materials are crushed into suitable sizes, can they smoothly go through the following step, i.e. pelelting. During the process of crushing, sizes of the crushed materials are determined by a combination of factors, including screen sizes, rotor speed, size and number of hammers, fan, collision with walls of the chamber.
Size of the screen is the main factor that affects the final size of crushed materials. And the rotor speed is also an important factor.
1. Any material that enters the grinding chamber must be reduced to a size below the diameter of the screen holes to pass through the screen that covers the mill's discharge opening. You can control size reduction through inserting a screen with different sized holes. So you can choose the right screen hole size based on the size of pellets you would like.
2. When the hammer mill rotor spins, the hammers flail out and impact the material with great severity causing it to break down. As a result, the higher the rotor speed, the greater the number of hammer mill blows, and thus a finer end product. Conversely, if tap the same material with the same hammer at slow rotor speed, it is hard to grind the material into particles. Therefore controlling the rotor speed can get your ideal particle size.
